press release CABGOC starts fabricating South N’dola platform in Cuanza Sul

Cuanza Sul, Angola, August 16, 2023 – Chevron’s subsidiary in Angola, Cabinda Gulf Oil Company Limited (CABGOC) announced today the commencement of works of the South N’dola wellhead platform fabrication in the province of Cuanza Sul. To celebrate this important project milestone, CABGOC hosted a “first steel cutting” ceremony” at ALGOA’s yard in Porto Amboim, with the attendance of the provincial Governor, Job Capapinha, and the Minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo.

The South N’dola development is a project which will be proudly made in Angola, by Angolans, for Angola. It is an application of a strategy which focuses on developing low cost, short cycle, and minimal scope projects.

The field is located in Block 0, 60 km from the Malongo Terminal, in Cabinda. The project consists of a well head platform with 12 production wells and a tie-back to the existing Mafumeira production and processing platform, where fluids will be processed and exported into Block 0’s oil and gas transportation system. The development concept leverages available processing capacity in Mafumeira, uses a monobore well design to produce the Pinda reservoir under primary depletion, and plans for batch drilling of the top-hole sections all of which reduce the cost to develop South N’Dola oil and gas resources and improvecapital efficiency.

For more than 65 years of operation in Angola, CABGOC has executed several major capital projects which contributed to the economic development of the country. This is achieved by building organizational capability within the company and our local business partners and delivering value to the country through the development and production of its hydrocarbon resources. The South Ndola project is another step in that journey. The initial fabrication phase will create more than 800 jobs locally, and the complete project will deliver incremental oil and gas production to the Malongo Terminal in Cabinda and to the Angola LNG plant in Soyo respectively.

“South N’dola will further demonstrate CABGOC’s ability to develop new Block 0 fields while growing in-country capabilities. It will be an enabler for more projects to be made in Angola, by Angolans, for Angolans”, said Billy Lacobie, CABGOC’s Managing Director.

The inauguration was also attended by the Provincial Governor, Job Capapinha, the Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, representatives of the Board of Directors of the National Agency of Oil, Gas and Biofuels, partners of Block 0 and other government representatives.

Cabinda Gulf Oil Company Limited (CABGOC), as operator, has a 39.2 percent interest in Block 0, along with Sonangol EP (41 percent active interest), TotalEnergies (10 percent active interest) and Azule Energy (9.8 percent active interest).
