mafumeira sul
growing production capacity in Block 0
The Mafumeira Sul project is part of a continued effort to grow Chevron’s production capacity in offshore Block 0 and contribute to the development of Angola’s oil and gas industry. The second stage of the Mafumeira Field development, Mafumeira Sul is located 15 miles (24 km) offshore Cabinda province in 200 feet (60 m) of water.
The project includes a central processing facility, two wellhead platforms, approximately 75 miles (121 km) of subsea pipelines, 34 producing wells and 16 water injection wells.
Associated natural gas from the field will be commercialized through the onshore Angola Liquefied Natural Gas plant in Soyo.
In early 2017, the main production facility of the second stage of the Mafumeira Field development was brought on line and gas export to Angola LNG began in mid-2017.Total daily production in 2017 averaged 40,000 barrels of liquids (13,000 net) and 69 million cubic feet of natural gas (27 million net).
In 2018, six new wells were drilled and ramp-up continued at the main production facility with total daily production in 2018 averaging 52,000 barrels of liquids (17,000 net) and 147 million cubic feet of natural gas (57 million net) exported to the Angola LNG plant.
Total daily production in 2019 averaged 52,000 barrels of liquids and 124 million cubic feet of natural gas exported to the Angola LNG plant. Three new wells were drilled in 2019.
Rig operations were suspended in March 2020 in Block 0 resulting from challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. Plans are in place to restart rig operations in late 2021.
