press release CABGOC inaugurates irene neto maternity in huíla
Cabinda, March 7, 2023 – Chevron’s subsidiary in Angola, Cabinda Gulf Oil Company Limited (CABGOC) inaugurated the Irene Neto Maternity in Lubango, in the province of Huíla, in a ceremony witnessed by H. E. the President of the republic João Lourenço. The new infrastructure is fully rehabilitated, requalified, and equipped, in accordance with international standards and best practices for a health unit, focused on the healthcare of women and children.
This project was funded by the Angola Revitalization Program, which is a category of the Social Bonus commitment arising from Block 0 concession, at a total cost of US$12,400,000, and was executed in 18 months. It is a commitment by CABGOC and Block 0’s associates (Sonangol, TotalEnergies, ENI), under the guidance of the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas, the National Agency for Oil, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG) and CABGOC, to help strengthen the health system in Huíla province, by contributing to the reduction of maternal and child morbidity and mortality. CABGOC and its partners are committed to investing in strategic health projects that help improve maternal and child health, reduce the prevalence of HIV-AIDS, malaria, COVID-19, and other diseases, as well as build capacity for healthcare workers and improve their working conditions.
“With initiatives of this kind we aim to contribute to Angola’s social and economic development, with emphasis on improved working conditions for health professionals and health services delivery for users. This will be achieved by increasing and improving installed capacity, and increasing responsiveness of differentiated services such as obstetrics, gynecology, oncology, sexual abuse and training”, said Billy Lacobie, CABGOC’s Managing Director.
The inauguration was also attended by the Governor of the province of Huíla, Nuno Mahapi, the Minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas, Diamantino de Azevedo, and several cabinet Ministers.
