press release CABGOC funds sewing and vocational training center for young women in cabinda
Cabinda, March 2, 2023– Chevron’s affiliate in Angola, Cabinda Gulf Oil Company Limited (“CABGOC”) awarded a contract to Development AID from People to People (ADPP), a nongovernmental organization, for the management of a vocational training center and sewing center, located in the province of Cabinda.
This project falls within the scope of CABGOC's social investment strategy and aims to strengthen the institutional capacity of the HIV testing and counseling center of Sisters of Maria Imaculada by creating an income-generating business and building capacity in the center’s user which will help ensure the center’s financial sustainability. This phase of the project is funded by CABGOC, at a total cost of US$170,000, for a period of two years; previously, CABGOC built an infrastructure to house the center at a total cost of US$735,000.
“With initiatives of this kind (Maria Imaculada) we aim to ignite and inspire new possibilities for women, families, and communities. By investing in programs that provide support for small businesses and entrepreneurs with financial health training and soft skills training, we are supporting the current and future health and prosperity of the communities where we operate”, said Lwena Sebastião, CABGOC Corporate Affairs General Manager.
The Sewing Center project start-up is another milestone of CABGOC’s partnership with the Maria Imaculada Sisters in Cabinda, which started over 20 years ago. The partnership started with a small initiative to support social actions, which evolved into supporting vulnerable mothers and children with HIV/AIDs. CABGOC is committed to the communities in which we operate, and we are even more focused on their economic and social development, which remain the basis of our social investment strategy.
