press release chevron and block 0 partners donate one million 500 thousand dollars for the construction of emergency department at the david bernadino pediatric hospital

LUANDA, JUNE 16, 2017 – The subsidiary of Chevron in Angola, Cabinda Gulf Oil Company Limited (CABGOC), and its partners in Block 0 (Sonangol EP, Total Petroleum Angola Limited, ENI Angola Production), today announced an investment of 1.5 million dollars for the construction of the first two phases of an Emergency Department of the David Bernardino Pediatric Hospital.

The donation provides for fitting out two operating rooms, an X-ray room, laboratory, break area for surgeons, cafeteria, day hospital, and meeting room.

The David Bernardino Pediatric Hospital sets the standard for pediatric treatment in Luanda province and in recent years it has experienced an increase in the number of cases that arrive at the hospital with a need for emergency treatment.

For the purpose of mitigating [sic] the reduction of child mortality and as a way to respond to emergency cases, the Pediatric Hospital came up with the idea of constructing an emergency department made up of three stages, with a total cost of 15 million dollars.

With this donation, CABGOC and the partners in Block 0 also demonstrate a commitment to the Angolan government to strive to reduce the mortality and morbidity of the population, following its strategic plan of Social Investment from 2014 to 2017.

“Over the years, CABGOC and the partners in Block 0 have promoted efforts together with the Ministry of Health to contribute to the improvement of health conditions in the country. Investments like this are the result of partnerships with the Angolan government to identify local needs and invest in programs that contribute to achieving sustainable and lasting results in the area of health,” said Manuel Mingas, manager of the CABGOC Department of Policy, Government and Public Affairs.

In the last five years, CABGOC and the partners in Block 0 have already invested more than USD 23 million in projects of raising awareness of health issues.
